Using Hemp Oil at Home

Updated: Jun 27, 2019

Hemp seed oil is full of Omegas that nourish the skin and doesn't clog pores. Learn how to use hemp oil at home to boost your skin care routine.

WON'T CLOG PORES

Hemp seed oil has a comedogenic rating of zero, meaning that it has zero chance of causing breakouts or clogging your pores. It works great on acne prone skin as it will actually help your skin balance sebum (oil) production. Hemp seed oil is packed full of omegas which act as an anti-inflammatory while also encouraging cell regeneration. This is especially good for those with atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. On top of being mega-healing, the linoleic acid and oleic acids found in hemp oil add necessary nutrients to the skin to slow down the appearance of aging, smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.

HOW TO USE AT HOME

For cleansing I like to apply about a half teaspoon of unrefined cold-pressed hemp oil to my face and work it in to remove makeup and impurities. When using to remove eye makeup, work in a downward motion on the lashes and do not rub into the eyes. For a lovely spa touch at home, heat a steam face towel and add a few drops of organic lavender essential oil. Make sure it's not too hot and wrap around face. Take a few deep inhales and breathe in the relaxing scent before using the steam towel to remove oil.

You can also make a simple scrub by adding some cane or brown sugar to the oil. Can be used on the face, lips and body. Add a few drops of tea tree oil for acne prone skin (avoid eyes). Add honey for added anti-redness benefits.

You can simply use the hemp oil as a moisturizer. Be aware that hemp oil is green and will stain sheets and clothing if you apply too much or spill it. Work the oil into the skin thoroughly before getting dressed or slipping into white sheets.

Hemp oil can also be used as a weekly hair mask. You can use alone or add in some avocado oil, your favorite deep conditioner. There are countless hair mask recipes online, find one you like and just use hemp oil as the base!

Here in Kansas City, you can find hemp seed oil in the fridge at one of Nature's Own two locations: River Market and Westport.
